Tehran, a Venue: Urban Art with a Message

When the urban space becomes a platform for artistic expression, what does that art then aspire to?

The 21th century Tehran –an urban jungle amidst conflict, intimidation and repression- homes thousands of street artists who strive to convey messages of peace, hope and introspection through their anonymity. Grafitti has now become a form of political activism and communication in the Iranian capital.

It’s so important to remember that graffiti is not a manifestation of urban blight. Graffiti removal creates sterile public spaces, but city halls fail to recognise the merit in stuff like this. I hope this isn’t the last post on Tehran’s graffiti scene!
